Penny Productions is about spoken word collaboration, experimentation and celebration.
Penny is a 100% fun vessel to generate a buzz around the Isle of Man's vibrant spoken word scene. We use it to showcase our own work and to celebrate other creatives whose work we adore. We also use Penny to explore high quality collaborative and solo ventures that entertain, challenge, theatricalise, and push spoken word boundaries. Penny Productions is not a public service, though we do occasionally run open mics and other interactive events.

Penny Production's 'A Terror of Poets Upon Us'
Well The Mitre was a little dark and seedy...
A clip from my performance at 'A Terror of Poets Upon Us' - Penny Production's Open Mic Christmas Party 2018 Penny Partner and Manx Litfest Short Story Slam Champ, 2018, Kim Kneen.
Penny Production's plan is dark and seedy - to rip spoken word out of the classroom and let it explode its secret and arcane pleasures into weird and wonderful locations - from the middle of raucous rock and pop sets in dimly lit bars, to lighthouses, glens, festivals, piers, castles, bizarre modes of transport, to mines, and even to the sea - yes, even to the sea. Why not?
The weirder and the more challenging the location, the more surreal the collaboration and the material we'll be creating, the more fantastical and the better the opportunity to dress to express in which we'll be indulging, the greater the fun we'll all have with this bright shiny new adventure that is, Penny Productions. Penny Productions is a partnership between Jackie's Wicked Rhymes, aka me - Penny Farthing, and one of my greatest local literary inspirations, and absolutely world class talent and prize winning writer in her own right, Kim Kneen, aka Manx Mrytle. We also pluck guests from the huge pool of literary talent the Island has to offer, in order to give all our favourite writers the chance to shine - and perform! In addition to this, we occasionally call upon the skills of our resident stage manager, Helen Clarke, resident musicians, 'The Penny Orchestra,' Ed Morrey on drums and Johnny Galbraith on double bass, alongside other interesting collaborations we have in the pipeline. Creating a stage wherever and whenever the urge takes us, Penny Productions is a combination of original poetry and short fiction, often flavoured with the gothic and the theatrical, infused with an element of the steam punk or the circus or the brothel... You can find us on Facebook. Come, come, sign up and find us... We are going to have so much fun! Penny Productions is yet another collaborative venture that has sprung out of the outstanding Manx Litfest. Manx Litfest is a literary festival that takes place on the Island over the course of a week every September. Featuring exciting slam competitions as well as opportunities to see world class writers and performers deliver their work, the festival has become a real treat - and hub, for local literary enthusiasts. In fact, its impact has been so significant, and the inspiration behind so many different groups, that year round the Island now offers something for everyone interested in the spoken word, from writing and poetry meets, to storytelling clubs, open mic nights, short story performance groups and even theatre.
